Description

Sachsenhausen – Guided Tour of the Memorial from Berlin

The Sachsenhausen Memorial, located north of Berlin, is one of the most significant sites of Nazi history. Between 1936 and 1945, tens of thousands of people were interned, exploited and murdered in this concentration camp. After the war, the Soviet occupying forces continued to use the area as a special camp before it became a place of remembrance and historical education.

The tour begins in Berlin at Potsdamer Platz 10. Together with your French-speaking guide, you will take the S-Bahn to Oranienburg, the train station closest to the Memorial. Once on site, a guided tour of approximately three hours will take you through the grounds.

You will see, among other places:

  • The former main entrance with Tower A

  • The roll call square

  • Several preserved or reconstructed prisoner barracks

  • The infirmary and the pathology laboratory

Through historical accounts, documents and architectural explanations, the tour sheds light on Sachsenhausen’s function as an SS “model camp” as well as the systematic brutality of its operations.
