Von Steglitz-Zehlendorf in die Welt - Innovationen aus Berlin SÜDWEST Adult
Description
Enjoy a bicycle tour through the green Southwest of the city. Experience a totally new side of Berlin.
As early as the nineteenth century the south west of Berlin was a pioneering place for innovations. The first Prussian railway was built there to Potsdam. This creative energy surfaced again almost one hundred years later at the site of the last seat of the Bauhaus, in the same neighborhood as, shortly after the second World War, the early television tubes were produced. Today the production here consists of artificial hearts which are sold worldwide. After visiting these interesting locations we will pass the former living quarters of Otto Lilienthal, German pioneer of aviation, and other famous engineers - let it be a surprise! Among other superlatives adorning our route, we will visit the historic stop of the “1st electrical tram” in the world. Amongst the water ways in the area we will find the model for one of the most famous canals of the world, and a groundbreaking educational institution as well as some architectural highlights from the End of the 19th century. The tour will conclude with a visit to the “Westbazar” in the charmingly contemplative small town of Lichterfelde.
